Welcome to the cyber-home of "Maestro Antonio Plectro"
"Maestro Antonio Plectro" is
the name of my 1939 Martin D-18.
According to Martin's production
records the Maestro was completed on December 6, 1939.
- The top on this fine instrument shows
grain run-out.
- The finish on the top is in exceptionally fine shape except that it was
buffed out by a previous owner. The only overspray on the guitar is
right behind the bridge where a top crack was repaired. Otherwise
the finish is all original.
- The original pickguard.
- The original bridge was replaced with a slightly oversized
bridge at some point in the past.
- The top has 4 cracks, 3 behind the bridge and the other is the
B-string crack. No other cracks are present on this instrument.
- Here's a close-up of the
top.
- Original pickguard
- wear between the bridge and the pickguard
- glare to the right of the upper section of the pickguard
- Beautiful Brazilian Rosewood peghead
overlay and the original
Martin decal with real gold in the decal coloring.
- Here are the original Grover tuners. I
replaced them with Waverly
tuners, which dropped in perfectly with no modifications necessary.
- Too many old D-18's have necks that have finish chips because of
capos or the guitars have been banged up against tables and such.
